Mark VanCuren Named Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at UT-Pan American

EDINBURG, TX – The University of Texas-Pan American Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Hoffman announced on Wednesday the hiring of Mark VanCuren as the Bronc’s new assistant basketball coach.

“I am looking forward to working with Coach Hoffman and his staff,” said VanCuren.  “In the two years they have been at UTPA they have taken many positive steps in turning this program around.  I hope that I can be an integral part of that continuing progress and expectation of success”.

VanCuren, a native of Norman, Okla., has been coaching at the high school level in his home state for the past 14 years while his teams have earned various athletic and academic awards.  While earning the 1997 Region Coach of the Year honor, VanCuren also led his high school boy’s basketball team to the 1996-97 Oklahoma 4A State Championship.  He and his teams have also earned several district, regional and area championships while also amassing several academic team awards at the state level.

“Mark is a tireless worker who brings a lot to the table and will be a welcome addition to our program.  He has had many years of experience working with high school athletes and will be a valuable asset in our recruiting efforts,” said third year Head Coach Bob Hoffman.  VanCuren’s primary duties will consist of recruiting, on-floor coaching and monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes on the basketball team.

VanCuren earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla. where he was a recipient of the prestigious Leadership Council Scholarship, served on the Student Senate and was a member of the Student Government Association.
