UTPA ATHLETES TO HOLD FOOD DRIVE IN MCALLEN

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American athletic department will be holding a food drive at the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley on Zinnia Street in McAllen this Saturday. The food drive will begin at 8 a.m., and conclude at noon.

"We're doing this as part of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program," said UTPA Academic Counselor/Life Skills Coordinator for Athletics Dawne Hill. "It's going to cover Thanksgiving for individuals in the community."

Texas-Pan American student-athletes will be responsible for inspecting, cleaning, sorting, and packing cans and other food donations at the food bank. Once this is accomplished, the athletes will take inventory, and load all of the donations for distribution.

"We should have about 85 athletes from various sports," said Hill. "I expect this will broaden community awareness in the minds of the athletes, and assist the community.

For more information, please contact Hill at 956-292-7232.
