BRONCS AT HOME FOR FINAL TWO DATES

EDINBURG, TX –The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team will return home for the final two home dates of the 2002 baseball season. The Broncs will play NCAA Division II powers St. Mary’s (TX) Saturday, and Incarnate Word Tuesday. Both dates will be doubleheaders, with Saturday’s games beginning at 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday’s contests slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.

Saturday will be Senior Day, and eight Bronc seniors will be honored. “Our gratitude goes to the seniors,” said UTPA Head Coach Reggie Tredaway. They will be dearly missed, that’s for sure.”

Saturday’s game will mark UTPA’s first home game in two weeks. “We’re a little road-weary,” said Tredaway. “There’s no question that we’re glad to be home for a week.”

The Rattlers are the defending NCAA Division II champions. St. Mary’s is 28-17 this season, and has won their last five games. Incarnate Word is 27-19 prior to their weekend series against Dallas Baptist.

“St. Mary’s won the Division II World series last year, and Incarnate Word is a good team,” said Tredaway. “We have to go out and execute, and we have to play well in all phases of the game.”

Sophomore righthander Justin Bogy (West Columbia, TX/West Columbia HS), senior righthander Mike Calvert (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine HS/Navarro JC) and senior lefthander Frank James (Elgin, TX/Elgin HS/Navarro JC) will draw three of the starting assignments on the mound.

The game against St. Mary’s will be Little League Day. All Little League players who show up in uniform will be admitted free of charge.
