BRONCS AT HOME FOR FIVE GAMES

EDINBURG, TX –After spending the past week on the road, The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team will return home this week to play five times. The Broncs will host Texas A&M-Kingsville in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Houston Baptist will be the opponent this weekend, with the Huskies visiting the Edinburg Baseball Stadium for a single game Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

“The way the schedule worked out this year left us with more games on the road than at home,” said UTPA Head Coach Reggie Tredaway, fresh off his 100th win as a head coach when the Broncs beat Texas A&M at Olsen Field in College Station in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday night. “We just had to play through it, and we’re glad to be at home.”

UTPA is 9-25, while the Javelinas will bring a 16-27 record into Tuesday’s contests. TAMU-Kingsville split a doubleheader Saturday against West Texas A&M before their single game Sunday was rained out. The Javelinas have won just two of their last twelve games.

“Texas A&M-Kingsville has a lot of players from junior colleges,” said Tredaway. “We know that they’ll come in here and be very competitive.”

Houston Baptist is 26-9, and the Huskies are ranked fifth in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics poll. HBU won three games against Wiley College last weekend by an aggregate score of 68-7, and will play a doubleheader against Incarnate Word Tuesday and a single game against Texas Southern Thursday before coming to UTPA. The Broncs and Huskies split a doubleheader at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium March 29th.

“Houston Baptist is a good team, as they showed the first time we played them,” said Tredaway. “We have a few people injured and a few people who are sick, and, hopefully, we can take care of those situations.”

Senior righthander Justin Dowd (Waxahachie, TX/Waxahachie HS/Navarro JC) will join one of two senior righthanders, Mike Killian (Santa Fe, TX/Santa Fe HS/Hill JC) or Mike Calvert (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine HS/Navarro JC) as starters against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Junior righthander Travis Parker (Brownsville, TX/Hanna HS/UT-Brownsville), senior lefthander Frank James (Elgin, TX/Elgin HS/Navarro JC) and sophomore righthander Justin Bogy (West Columbia, TX/West Columbia HS) should start against the Huskies.

The Broncs will visit Texas-San Antonio for a doubleheader next Wednesday.
