UTPA Athletics Announces Hiring of Megan Kahn as Assistant Academic Coordinator

EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Athletic Department announced on Wednesday the hiring of Megan Kahn as the department’s first assistant academic coordinator.

Kahn comes to UTPA after recently receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from Truman State University.  Her commitment to academics was shown by the fact that she graduated from TSU with a 3.96 grade point average.  She was named to the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times for her work off the court and was a GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American District VII Team member.

“I’m excited to get the opportunity to be a mentor for our student-athletes,” said Kahn.  “As a former player I know about the pressures, stress and time management demands of being a student-athlete.  I was also the study hall monitor for our team at Truman State for three years.  I’m looking forward to helping increase the GPA for the student-athletes here.”

A native of Newton, Iowa, Kahn was a four-year letterwinner while playing for current UTPA Head Coach Karin Nicholls, where she set a school record for games played with 110, helped the team advance to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 and twice served as the team captain.

Kahn has already garnered a significant amount of off the court experience in a number of areas.  This past summer she was an intern for the WNBA’s Detroit Shock, assisting with strength and conditioning, practices and game operations.  From 1997-2000 she was a work-study student in the women’s basketball office at Truman State.  She has worked in a number of basketball related camps, including the WNBA/Nike Be Active Camp (2000), the Truman State Summer Basketball Camp (1996-98) and the Iowa State Basketball Camp (1997).

“I am very excited to be working with Megan,” said Chris Uchacz, Head Academic Coordinator.  “Her successes as a scholar and an athlete will play an integral role in developing our Athletic Academic Services program here at UTPA.  Her ability to relate to our student-athletes will be a great asset.  Kahn has exemplified the notion of the student-athlete, earning a 3.96 grade point average while playing basketball for four years.”
