IV. Cartagena de Indias: Founded in 1533, today it is an important center of commerce in the region and a popular tourist destination.
The walled city of Cartagena de Indias and its system of colonial forts were designated by UNESCO in 1984 as Patrimony of Humanity.
Its current socioeconomic state and its racial and cultural diversity are evidence of the contradictions of what used to be one of the most
important ports for slave traffic in the Caribbean. For more information visit:
http://www.cartagenainfo.net.

V . Visit to Rosario Island: The idyllic Rosario Islands (or Islas del Rosario as they are known in Spanish), are a group of some 27 small
islands with pristine beaches surrounded by a body of turquoise waters. The islands form part of Rosario's Coral Reef National Park.
They are located 35 kilometers south
west of Cartagena. Activities include a bike tour of the main Island, bird watching, kayaking, a visit to
the Aquarium for a look at some large fish, but the main activity is enjoying the warmth of the beautiful beaches.  The trip to the islands is an
additional cost; it is not included in the conference registration fee.
